Happy Friday! As usual, since it’s the last Friday of the month, I’m linking up with Marcia from Marcia’s Healthy Slice for Runfessions. Let’s get this party started!
I runfess that allergy season this year has been rough
If you suffer from seasonal allergies, I’m sure you can relate! This season has been AWFUL! I’ve been suffering for the past few weeks but this past week has been the worst. I’m using my allergy anti-itch eye drops, Flonase and Zyrtec everyday. It gives me relief temporarily but then I’m back to suffering. I’ve also tried nettle tea and peppermint tea as those have helped in the past but it’s not working this year. Even though my doctor and an allergist have recommended that I get allergy shots, I would rather not do that just because it involves so much time (weekly shots for months). But I may not have a choice if this continues.
I runfess I’m secretly obsessed with the Nextdoor App
Okay, so I’m probably late to the party, but I downloaded the Nextdoor App last month and some of the posts on there are WILD! If I need a good laugh, I usually go on there to see what crazy post is up. Usually I can always find a crazy political post and that always makes me laugh because I will never understand people arguing back and forth on an app. Recently someone posted about her massive goldfish and if there was anyone with a pond that needed fish. I’ve also been able to sell a few things locally on the app so it’s useful for something other than laughs, lol.
I runfess that I’ve lost some of my strength
While I’m still working out at home, I think that not going to OTF (I froze my account when everything happened with my dad) is negatively affecting my strength training. I don’t have super heavy weights at home, so that could be one reason, but I think I just need to be more mindful about the Peloton strength classes that I select. Obviously it’s not a huge deal, but I definitely noticed that my push-ups aren’t feeling as easy as they used to (I used the term easy loosely, lol).
I runfess that I’m nervous for my second vaccine shot
I get my second vaccine shot (Pfizer) tomorrow afternoon. Even though I didn’t have any crazy side effects from the first shot (just a sore arm) I’m a little nervous for the second shot. I’ve heard from a few people of things to do to help feel better after the second shot like staying hydrated, drinking Gatorade, taking tylenol as needed, etc. The only good thing is that if I feel crappy the next day after the shot, at least it will be Sunday and I won’t have to take a sick day from work.
That’s it for this month – thanks for reading my runfessions! I hope that you have a great weekend!
Do you have anything you want to runfess for April?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida for Fit Five Friday!
Marcia says
My neighbor has been telling me to get the Nextdoor app for years! Who knew it was so fun? Your strength will come back in no time so no worries. My daughter got her second Pfizer dose at school and had no problems other than some mild arm soreness, so there is hope! Thanks for linking!
kookyrunner says
I wish I had downloaded the Nextdoor app sooner because it really is so crazy, lol. Glad to hear that your daughter didn’t have any side effects from her second shot!
Jessie says
My side effects from the 2nd Pfizer were minor. Just a mild hangover, ha! I was still able to run. Good luck!
The Next door app is a rabbit hole of weirdness…Years ago, I posted when my cat (now passed) escaped and honestly for years after I posted, people would contact me telling me they saw him, and I’d respond and say “no, he passed away” and they’d say, “nope, it was definitely him!” HA!
kookyrunner says
That’s good to know and awesome that you were still able to run!
OMG that Nextdoor app story is crazy. I guess it’s a good thing that so many people thought they found your cat? lol
Coco says
With my fractured rib I lost so much upper body strength! My 20 lb weights are collecting dust and my puish-ups are so sad. I know it will come back if I put the time in …..
Good luck with your second dose — mine is Wednesday.
I hope your Dad continues to improve.
kookyrunner says
It’s so sad to lose strength, but like you mentioned, it will all come back in due time. Good luck with your second shot on Wednesday!
Jenny says
Very smart to schedule your shot for a Saturday! I felt like crap the day after my second shot, but didn’t have to go to work. I just took tylenol and rested, and the next day I was completely normal and back at work. It’s not so bad if you know it’s only going to last for one day.
Don’t worry about the strength- you’ll get it back quickly!
kookyrunner says
I actually just got lucky that it was scheduled for a Saturday, lol. I’m well equipped with gatorade, water and tylenol 🙂
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I don’t have the app, but I did join Nextdoor last year. I mostly ignore the notifications.
Sorry, can’t help with those seasonal allergies — I know they can be so draining!
I didn’t take anything with either of my vaccines. My understanding is let them do their jobs, but I know others disagreed. My guess is you probably don’t have much to worry about since you didn’t have much of a reaction to the first & Pfizer generally has less side effects, but you never know!
Since I knew mine was coming this time, I was able to work like a crazy person beforehand and basically clear my schedule after, and that’s what I needed. I’ve also taken it a bit easier still, and I think that’s serving me well, because despite the bad reaction, once that was over I actually didn’t feel as many effects as i did with the first! Good luck, Kim!
kookyrunner says
I tried to get in a good workout this morning just in case tomorrow I need to rest. I have heard that Pfizer has less side effects so I am hoping that works in my favor!
Kimberly Hatting says
You may remember, I spontaneously got my first shot (of Moderna, so not the same drug LOL) two days early, and I’m so glad I did. My arm was in a major crippled state for almost four days. I’ll be getting my second shot a few days prior to the Fight for Air Climb, which is much better than the day prior (which is when it would have worked out had I not done the other shot early). Allergy shots are no joke…a huge time commitment (I think my course of treatment was over four years, and the first couple years involved weekly shots. BUT, I’d do it all over again because I was so miserable (I also had the oral meds and eye drops, and an inhaler for awhile…UGH). Hugs to you, Kim <3 I hope you feel better.
kookyrunner says
Oh man that arm soreness sounds tough 🙁 I did have arm soreness with the first shot but it only lasted 2 days. It was hard to wash my hair though, lol.
Wendy says
I had to shut down the NextDoor app–it got pretty nasty! Some guy named Harry Balls kept attacking people. Lol. One of my neighbors is a not nice ex-cop and he has no issue attacking people either. Ugh…
I had very little reaction to my second shot; my husband had none. You’ll be ok. Those allergies, tho…hang in there. I’m seeing a ton of it at work.
kookyrunner says
Ugh – that’s horrible! I haven’t come across any crazy people on the app yet but there are a handful of people that get pretty “passionate” during any political posts.
It’s reassuring to hear that you didn’t have a bad reaction to the second shot – hoping for the same for me!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
My allergies have been bothering me lately but not as much as usual. The problem was they hit around the same time that i was sick so I couldn’t tell what was wrong. I have the nextdoor app but I forgot my password so I can’t get in. I still get the emails which are entertaining.
kookyrunner says
I think today is the first day that my allergies feel like they are under control – the pollen count must not be too bad today!
Darlene says
Don’t have that app.
Do not worry about your shot. Most people do not have a reaction. I hope you are one.
My allergies used to be awful but have gotten better as I’ve aged.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Darlene. Keeping my fingers crossed that the second shot goes well this afternoon.
Laurie says
I started using the Nextdoor app and found out some disturbing things about some of our neighbors. One of our neighbors was driving his truck too fast down a residential street and a guy yelled at him. He actually went home, got a GUN, and went back and confronted the guy! How crazy?!?! Maybe there are some things I was better off not knowing! 🙂
Good luck with your second vaccine. I just got mine (Pfizer) and it was no biggie. I hope you have the same result.
kookyrunner says
OMG – That story about your neighbor is terrifying!
Thanks Laurie! Keeping my fingers crossed that the second shot this afternoon goes as well as the first.
Michelle D. says
OK I have to admit I’m clueless about the Nextdoor app, but now you have me intrigued.
Most people I know I have done well with the 2nd dose of Pfizer so I hope the same holds true for you!
kookyrunner says
I would recommend downloading it. It’s good for a laugh but there’s also great information on there too, lol.
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
I’m not on NextDoor but my town has a Facebook page that gets pretty wild. Allergies have been super rough this year. As soon as I stop running I start coughing and I think we’re far enough in the pandemic that no one cares anymore. Thank goodness allergy season was lighter last year!
Congrats on shot #2!!! You’re almost out of the woods.
kookyrunner says
I think my town also has a Facebook group – I should look into that! I haven’t gone running outside in weeks because of my allergies. I know if I do, I’ll be coughing, sneezing and wheezing all day 🙁
Denise @runheartfit says
I’m so glad I don’t have allergies but my nose does run every day.
I didn’t have any issues after either one of my shots. Good luck!
Will you be going back to OTF now that your Dad is doing better?
kookyrunner says
Luckily I didn’t have any side effects from the second shot! I will probably go back to OTF next month after we get into a more normal routine with my dad since he should be home by then.
Deborah Brooks says
My allergies have been insane the past month. I am hoping we are almost out of the worst of it. The posts on nextdoor app are crazy! Who are these people and why just why do we need to see a photo of the bird that just landed on your window sill?? Something is better than nothing when it comes to strength training right. I think you will bounce right back when you return to classes. I do find that I can get a lot from the Peloton strength classes. Sometimes I plan out better than others!
kookyrunner says
Me too! I really can’t deal with weeks of dealing with my allergies being this bad. Some of the posts on the Next-door app are crazy. I especially love the ones that complain about parking lots – it’s so pointless!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I’ve never heard of that app but now I am curious. I hope it goes well tomorrow with your vaccine!
kookyrunner says
The app is pretty interesting – definitely check it out!
Jenn says
I hope your second shot was completely uneventful. I absolutely get the anxiety over it. I almost cried when I got my jab, just out of nerves.
Your strength will come back <3
NextDoor is something else. I usuallly don't have the patience for it.
kookyrunner says
Luckily (knock on wood) I haven’t had any side effects from the second shot, just a sore arm like the first shot.
Cari says
Your nextdoor app is my citizen. Personal favorite: squirrels “fighting”. Um, isn’t that what they do?
Hope vaccine was side effect free.
My allergies have been all over the map. Masked life has helped some
kookyrunner says
I’ve heard of the Citizen app too. Love that someone posted about squirrels fighting, lol.
Luckily I haven’t had any side effects from the second shot. I feel like my allergies this week were way worse than the vaccine shot, lol.
Cari says
I felt the same, my vaccine fog was as much or more the pollen as the vaccine itself
