Happy Friday! It’s a new month and it’s time to set new goals! No matter how crazy everything gets, I always like to set monthly goals because I find that they help to keep me focused.
First, let’s take a look at my goals from August:
Complete Matty’s Summer Crunch Core Program
Grade: A
I’ll finish up this program today. I won’t say that I enjoy all of the classes, but Matty did introduce me to a few new core moves that I’ll try to incorporate more.
Eat more plant based meals
Grade: B
I did semi-okay with this goal. I don’t eat fast food, but I could do a better job of cooking solely from scratch. I do great with breakfast and lunch, but could do better with my dinner selections. I can’t lie – I do enjoy certain frozen and refrigerated foods from Trader Joes, like their lemon pepper chicken, salads and some of their frozen meals.
Complete longer runs
Grade: A
I completed at least one 60 minute run per week, sometimes two a week. I was surprised at how good the runs felt. I really haven’t done any type of distance running all year but my legs feel stronger so maybe all my strength training is paying off.
Here are my goals for September!
Complete two virtual 10ks
I’ll be running the Back on My Feet Running Festival 10K and the lululemon SeaWheeze 2021 Virtual Half Marathon and 10K this month. i feel pretty good about running these races, especially since they are both for amazing causes! Fall has always been my favorite month for racing and although I won’t be running any in-person races, I will enjoy running a few virtual races for charity.
Complete the Orangetheory DriTri
September means it’s DriTri time! It’s a 2,000m row, 300 body weight exercises and a 5K run. I think this will be my fourth time doing the DriTri. It will be outside again this year so I just had to sign up for it again. I’m not looking to PR this time since I have gotten a PR 3 times, but it’s always a great sense of accomplishment once it’s over.
Research virtual volunteer experiences
Work is going to be pretty insane for the next 2 months, but I would like to look into a few virtual volunteer opportunities. I’m not 100% comfortable with volunteering in-person, but I have heard of a few local non-profits that have remote/virtual opportunities so I will explore those. I used to volunteer a lot before the pandemic and I feel the need to get back to that.
That’s it for this month – wish me luck!
If you set monthly goals, what are your goals for September?
I’m linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida for Fit Five Friday!
Wendy says
You did really well on your goals this month. I need to do an ab/core workout. Since I’ve been sidelined, that is something I’ve neglected and it shows! SJ is already all over it… Good luck with September’s goals!
kookyrunner says
I have no doubt that Coach SJ is all over designing ways to fit in ab/core workouts for you. I love that you have such a close relationship with your coach!
Darlene S. Cardillo says
You did great this month.
Never thought of virtual volunteering. Great idea.
I need to walk more and get back into hiking Now that it’s cooling down maybe even some speed will come back. One could hope.
kookyrunner says
Virtual volunteering really ramped up last year and it looks like it’s something that will stick around for a while so I’m looking forward to exploring it!
Black Knight says
You did great. To complete at least one 60 minutes for week was also my goal for august.
And now that the weather cooled down I can start with longer runs.
Good luck with September goals. I don’t have any race plan for September because here I see too many races in persons cancelled or postponed.
kookyrunner says
Yes the cooler weather definitely makes the long runs more tolerable for sure!
Marcia says
You had a great month! Omg I can’t believe it’s already for the Dri Tri again. Feels like you just did that. That’s awesome your hour long runs feel great. I’m sure all your strength training is paying off big time.
kookyrunner says
They do the DriTri two times a year so the last time I did it was March but it does seem like those past 6 months just flew by!
Michelle D. says
Great job with your August goals! I can’t say I enjoyed all of the Matty core classes either…I may or may not have cheated this past week and sub in other instructors’ classes 😉
You’ve been so consistent with your strength training – nice to hear it’s paying off on your runs.
Virtual volunteering is a great option! I’ll be interested to hear what you decide to do.
kookyrunner says
I did other instructors on the weekend to mix things up for the core classes. Sometimes I think he tries to fit too much in a 10 minute class which can make it a bit confusing!
I’ll be sure to share what type of virtual volunteering options I find!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Seems like reasonable goals for September and you did great in August!
I keep trying to rely less on frozen foods. Most of the time I do, but I’ve either been so busy or traveling that that’s been all the energy I have some nights. Fingers crossed that *maybe* life is going to settle down some more now, although I have some trepidations when/if my mom lets her aide go.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Judy! Frozen foods are so convenient so I definitely rely on them too much, lol. But I’m going to make a real effort to not use them as much moving forward.
Kimberly Hatting says
You always have great monthly goals! I’m kind of in a coasting mode right now & need a new plan of action. Since I’m doing the virtual Air Force 10K now, maybe we can coordinate a”virtual” get-together (?).
kookyrunner says
That would be awesome to coordinate a virtual get-together for a 10K race. I know Michelle is also doing the BOMF 10K so we can make is a Bibrave thing 🙂
Jenny says
Well, with your longer runs in August you should be in great shape for your races this month! You’re super dedicated to your workout routine, and it will pay off. Good luck with the DriTri- I want to hear all about it!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Jenny!
Jenn says
I love that you are exploring other ways to volunteer. Even virtually, it is just so important. <3
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jenn! I know that so many places need help now so I’m looking forward to offering my time to volunteer.
Coco says
Great going, Kim. For now, my Achilles is holding me back from longer runs, but once that’s better I will have a lot of careful building up to do. A 60 min run is a dream — or a nightmare — right now. 😉
There’s not a TJs very close to me, so I only go once in a while. My husband doesn’t really like frozen entrees, but I do like their frozen veggies, fried rice, and Indian entrees.
kookyrunner says
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you will get back to 60 minute runs before the year is over!
My sister loves TJs frozen Indian entrees! She keep saying I need to try them since they aren’t too spicy.
