Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: A Day in the Life. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
This definitely won’t be the most exciting post since I work from home, but this is what I do during a typical day.
6:00-9:00am
My early morning routine consists of waking up at 6am, doing a workout, taking a shower and eating breakfast/drinking coffee, before logging to for work at 9. This can fluctuate slightly if I have early morning meetings, but that normally only happens a few times a month.
Any other morning workout people here? Whether it’s a Peloton workout or an Orangetheory workout, I need to get it done in the morning before work. I just feel like it sets the tone for the whole day AND I get to cross it off my to-do list early.
9:00am-12:30/1:00pm
Work, work and more work. My mornings usually consist of a few conference calls, answering emails, and working on whatever projects I currently have to complete.
Around 12:30/1:00, I go to the kitchen to make lunch. I’ve bene more intentional with actually taking a lunch break for 30 minutes when possible, instead of just making a quick meal and eating it at my desk.
1:00-5:00/6:00pm
In the afternoon I usually have less meetings, so it allows me to catch up on emails and also dedicate more time to my projects. If time allows, I also like to glance at my scheduled meetings for the next day to make sure I’m prepared for those.
6:00/6:30pm
Typically this is dinner time, but I also use it as an opportunity to catch up with family and friends. I also might watch a little bit of TV during this time as well.
7:00-11:00pm
This timeframe allows for a mix of a bunch of different things. Typically I will catch up on my personal email and read blogs. Sometimes I’ll do a little cleaning or a load of laundry. I always use this time to catch up on social media as well – sometimes spending a little too much time on Instagram! I also enjoy watching funny videos on TikTok right before bed.
What does a typical day look like for you?

I Love that you are making time for lunch! It’s so important. when I worked outside the home, I would bring my own lunch — but I admit I often ate at my workspace so I could go home earlier. I was paid by the hour back then.
I start my days with Yoga — the more heating workouts come later — but usually are also done some time in the morning.

I would always bring my lunch from home when I worked in the office too. I would usually find an empty conference room to eat or I would take my meal outside if the weather was nice, Of course I couldn’t do it every day, but I tried to do it more often than not.
That’s so great that you start your day with yoga. I’ve been thinking of starting off my day with a meditation to center myself before the craziness of the workday.

Well done with getting your workouts done first thing!
It does make a huge difference to the day if you get the workout done first.
Because we can largely define our own schedule, we first work, starting at 7am. Then go for a run at 10am. Back home, we do another 30-40 minutes of bodyweight stuff (abs, upper body, booty, etc.). Then we return to our desks. We eat around 5pm.
It’s a weird schedule, but it suits us perfectly.

There’s so much flexibility when you can make your own schedule – that’s awesome!

That’s a pretty busy morning !

I definitely have to make time for lunch. When I worked from home for a bit, I shut off the computer and made sure to eat at the table. It’s easy to have it spill over without being intentional!
kookyrunner says
I 100% agree with this!

I am also very much a workout person! I try to get it out of the way so nothing can prevent my workout if unexpected things happen during the day. I also feel like it sets the right tone for the day and I feel much more productive and ready to tackle the to-do list.
My day sounds pretty similar to yours (I am still working from home too, but will be going back to the office one day a week starting in June)
kookyrunner says
Same here! I noticed that the longer I wait to do a workout, it either won’t get done or it will get shortened by a lot.

As you know, my mornings start with some kind of action, usually a workout of some sort or a walk (at the bare minimum). It really does set the tone for the day, and the movement really acts as my “coffee.” Gosh, I didn’t realize how much time you devote to meetings!
kookyrunner says
Totally agree that it sets the tone for the day. On the rare days that I workout in the afternoon, everything just feels a little “off”.
Deborah Brooks says
You are busy and also very organized! It is great that you have a sc=hedule that works for you. Finding some time for yourself is key too!
kookyrunner says
Definitely! I try to schedule some “me time” as well, although I consider my workout time, me time as well.

My work day is similar as I also work from home now. But mornings also include prepping kids for school. Not too stressful now as I designed a point system with rewards at the end of the month. And “Happy Morning” gets them an easy point, LOL. But I’ve developed a terrible habit of not doing my run once they’ve gone to school and then have to squeeze it in at the end of the day when it’s less convenient. So will need to improve on that!
kookyrunner says
I find that it was harder to get into a routine once I started working from home. Hopefully you’ll get back to your morning runs! 🙂

I love Day in the Life posts! Do you like working from home? Did it start during Covid, and is it permanent? I think if I had the type of job where it was possible (not for me, being a massage therapist, sigh!) I would love it.
Yes to morning workouts! Every once in a while I’ll plan to work out later in the day, but things always go much smoother when I do it first thing.
kookyrunner says
I love working from home because of the freedom/flexibility, BUT I also feel like I work way more hours since I’m at home. It has it’s advantages and disadvantages. It started during Covid, and then my company permanently closed our office in October 2020 which made us full time WFH employees.
Zenaida Arroyo says
My schedule is definitely different than yours. However, the one thing we have in common is the workout in the morning. I also prefer to get it done in the morning. Also, since I wake up early, I like to go to bed early as well. Usually by 9pm is when we start to get ready here. Even the cats know! Mateo jumps into bed around that time.
kookyrunner says
Working out in the morning seems to be a constant for most of us!

I find it interesting to read everday routines. Work and exercise for me, but different shift times for work allows for variety in the routine.
